Discover Crown And Anchor

Walking into Crown And Anchor feels like stepping into a neighborhood living room where everyone knows the bartender and the food shows up exactly how you hoped it would. Tucked along 2891 Thousand Oaks Blvd, Thousand Oaks, CA 91362, United States, this British-style pub has built a reputation that goes beyond novelty décor. I’ve stopped in here after long workdays, caught weekend matches with friends, and even brought out-of-town family who wanted something relaxed but memorable. Every visit felt consistent, and that kind of reliability matters more than flashy trends.

The menu leans confidently into pub classics, and that’s where the kitchen really shines. Fish and chips arrive with a golden, crisp batter that doesn’t collapse into grease, a detail chefs often credit to proper oil temperature and rest time between frying, a method supported by culinary research from organizations like the Institute of Culinary Education. Shepherd’s pie comes out steaming, layered with savory meat and creamy mash that tastes like it was made in-house, not scooped from a bag. One server once explained how they prep certain sauces early in the day so flavors have time to develop, and it shows in every bite.

What keeps locals coming back isn’t just the food, though. The bar program balances familiarity with quality. You’ll see regulars ordering traditional ales while newcomers explore rotating taps or stick with well-poured classics. During one visit, a bartender walked me through why certain beers pair better with fried foods, noting carbonation levels and bitterness, something beer experts at the Brewers Association often highlight. That kind of casual expertise builds trust without feeling pretentious.

Reviews around town often mention the atmosphere, and for good reason. Dark wood, flags, and framed memorabilia create a cozy setting that works for solo lunches or group gatherings. On game days, the energy picks up without turning chaotic. I’ve watched servers manage a full room with calm efficiency, checking in just enough to make you feel looked after. According to hospitality studies from Cornell University, attentive but unobtrusive service is one of the top factors in positive dining experiences, and this place seems to understand that instinctively.

The location also plays a role in its popularity. Being right on Thousand Oaks Boulevard makes it easy to swing by after errands or meet friends coming from different parts of town. Parking is straightforward, which might sound minor, but anyone who dines out regularly knows how much that affects the overall experience. Locals often mention this convenience in their reviews, pairing comments about accessibility with praise for consistent food quality.

One thing I appreciate is the honesty of the place. Not every dish tries to reinvent the wheel, and that’s refreshing. There are moments when the wait can stretch during peak hours, and some items may sell out, especially on busy nights. Staff are upfront about it, and I’ve always found their recommendations spot-on when that happens. Transparency like that builds credibility, something consumer trust surveys consistently show leads to repeat visits.

Over time, this pub has become a reference point when friends ask where to eat. It’s the kind of spot where memories stack up naturally, from casual lunches to lively evenings. The combination of a well-thought-out menu, a welcoming location, and service rooted in real hospitality explains why people describe it as bold comfort food, dependable quality, and a local favorite, phrases you’ll hear echoed again and again when people talk about their experiences here.

  • Great spot to grab some British grub - huge menu of options, not all of which are British so should suit everyone. Service was excellent, and a fun interior too. Our group had toad in the hole, banger sandwich, Cobb salad, fish and chips, bangers and mash - all were tasty!

  • This place is amazing. It may feel like a bar, but the food is to die for. My husband and I have been here for drinks (the beer variety is awesome) and also just to dine. There's a beautiful tree-shaded courtyard to dine outside. Inside, the decor is warm and welcoming. The food never disappoints. Definitely try the Chicken and Vegetable Pie, Cornish Pastie, and Pot Roast. I just tried the Sticky Toffee Pudding and it was delightful. Everything tastes scratch made and the portions are great for the price.

  • The food was amazing! My friend had Bangers and Mash, which is sausage balls, and and a hard-boiled egg. It was really good, very tasty. We both had Fish & Chips. The pieces of fish are very large and fulfilling. The fries were ok. I had asked for mine to be "crispy", but they weren't. The fish came with house-made tartar sauce. 2 Giant Coke Cola glasses filled with iced tea. I also had a Bavarian Pretzel with spicy cheese. It was very good. There was tons of food, for great price points. We did not have room for dessert. We will have to go back. The dinning area was homey and comfy. Big booths, and tables. There was an outside seating area, and a bar. Free parking. The restroom was a little dated looking, and clean, very suitable. The staff were friendly, and extremely helpful. I gave the food 4 stars because the fries were not to our liking, otherwise I would have given 5 stars. The service definitely rated 5 stars. They have a full bar, not just beer and wine. We didn't see any patrons with young children, and we did not notice if there were high chairs for little people. You may want to call the restaurant if you are thinking of bringing young children. If you like British food, this is the place to come. You'll be happy to eat here at the Crown and Anchor.

  • We had a nice family dinner and they took us with a reservation of 8, no problem. The food was delicious, their pretzels and queso was amazing! They have a nice draft selection. They are a restaurant and a pub, two separate entrances. Great place to catch a game and eat with friends and family!

  • Excellent British food and amazing drinks served by a friendly, professional staff in pleasant surroundings. What more could you ask for! My son says the Crown and Anchor is his new favorite restaurant, and I tend to agree with him;) I had the Shepard's Pie on my first visit, which I really enjoyed. However, I especially enjoyed the Toad in the Hole I had the following weekend even more. The Bloody Mary they make is second to none, and always gets the weekend off to a great start! UPDATE: I have had the Full English Breakfast my last few visits. It is exceptional! Thanks Crown and Anchor!

  • Great British food! I was there to host a group of people on June 19 2025. Your soup and salad were very tasty. The other guests liked their food, too. We could not get enough of your desserts
